tomatoes

They are wonderous little things- much smaller this year than last but sweet and yummy none the less. I think these sketches would translate well to a screen print..or lino-cut... hmmm...or even embroidery. Ah the possibilities are endless, if only my energy was.

Australia/Survival Day

Honestly, what is the point in Nationalism?
It's too close to organised religion for me.
Nice excuse for a bbq though...and hanging some Chinese lanterns in amongst the grape vine.

inspiration at last

Finally I have begun to create some new "my stuff". Collage is my vehicle of choice at the moment, although those luscious hanks of wool are also calling to me to do some more felting. The rain must have kick started my creative juices as well as my tomatoes's....well, all living things are connected on this little planet even though we humans have a major attitude problem about it.

vintage Qld

Found this old print in an op shop and immediately loved it. It's an illustration from an old road guide to Queensland that someone else must have loved decades ago and framed. It just feels so familiar and Queenslandy to me...

mercy

I was listening to the radio this morning (RRR) and a lady called Merrick O'Shea(I think?) sang a beautiful song called "Mercy" and how we all need some even if we don't deserve it, and I thought the recent divine rain we've finally been having here in Melbourne felt like that.....mercy.

I've been a little distracted lately trying to get some commission work done for a dinnerware range- but here's a bit of purely decorative collage I did a while ago to ease the pain of commission work.
I love that Mammoth stamp.

Rain!

We had rain last night! Hoorah, actual decent rain.

Plus my tooth feels better, so here's a little paperbark bird to celebrate...

Calendars

Northcote Community Gardens Calendars I designed and we had printed up. Not a bad result but I really was making it up as I went along.

I can only water my plot twice a week for 15 minutes each time now due to Stage 3 water restrictions- plus I have to be down there by 8.30am! Ah, the sacrifices we make for our tomatoes.

I want one!

Another gorgeous thing I found on the internet via designsponge that I want....I think it's Dutch ..what do you think Simone?
Tooth still sore..but maybe improving, cross fingers.

Grass

I think this painting is finished- maybe, but I'm not sure. I am wary of doing too much to a painting once I get it to a point that I like, but then I think maybe I don't take it far enough...perhaps a bit more needs to be done, but I do like the blades of grass, and the simplicity.

Rain etc.

I love, love, love this spoon- found on a site via designsponge but I have to guiltily confess I can't remember what site.
Struggling to get creative at the moment, I have a rotten sore tooth that I'm trying unsuccessfully to ignore, and I am reading voraciously...
It must be that transitional time between years when you know intellectually that it's 2007 but it doesn't seem real yet, so you go into a sort of non-time state...I do anyway.
When will it rain????!!!

back from Christmas

Home again to dusty dry Melbourne, after lush and moist Qld. but despite that, it is nice to be back.
How gorgeous is this print from one of Ben's vintage shirts?
I haven't made anything yet since being home, but I did dig up some more very impressive potatoes and make some apricot and plum jam...in separate lots, not together...
It's hard to get into the swing again after a week of swimming and eating, but it's 2007 now and there is stuff to be done...tomorrow.
